Talcher, Angul District, OdishaTalcher is an industrial town in Odisha and it is known as the Coal Hub of the state. The city has ranked among the top GDP of Odisha for its coal reserves. Talcher is situated on the right bank of the Brahmani River in Angul District. The capital of the erstwhile Talcher State is one of the fastest growing industrial and mining complexes of the country. The city of coal is surrounded by the coalfields under MCL (Mahanadi Coalfields Limited) and has two Mega Power plants like NTPC, TTPS. During British era, Talcher was the capital of Talcher State, which was one of the princely states of the Eastern States Agency.

Talcher had a population of 40,841 as per 2011 census. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Talcher has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 62%. In Talcher, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Talcher is popular for Talcher Palace, also known as the Samrat Sadan Palace. It is the palace of 14th Century. It is the official residence of Raja Rajendra Chandra Deb of Talcher who lives there along with his wife Rani Saheb Pushpa Devi and their two sons Yuvraj Vijayendra Chandra Deb and Pattayet Shailendra Chandra Deb. Rengali Dam is another tourist spot located on the outskirts of Talcher. Some other places to visit in and around Talcher are Goddess Hingula temple, Paschimeshwar Mandir, Bhimkhund and sleeping statue of Lord Vishnu at a distance of 8 km from the town of Talcher.

The nearest airport for approaching the places of interest in the district of Angul is at Bhubaneswar (160-km), which is connected with New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Nagpur by flights. Talcher railway station on S. E. Railway is connected with all the major stations in India. By road, it is 20-km from Angul and 65-km from Dhenkanal District. It is connected with N.H.42 by N.H. 23 at Banarpal. Regular bus services are also available from here.
