Store rooms are also an essential part of a flat or a building. Vastu Shastra has advocated several principles to harmonize this unit.
These principles are as follows:-
•The store room should be located in the north-west corner of the main building. It would be beneficial if grains and other provisions are stored here. There would never be a shortage of grain or provisions.
•People can also built a mezzanine floor in the west and the south direction of the store room.
•The store room should not have a door in the south-west direction. Besides this doors to the store room can be built in any other directions. The height of the granary should not be more than the other rooms. It must be kept in mind that the north-west corner should not be taller. Windows in the granary should be built in the on the east and the west sides.
•The door of the granary should have two shutters.
•Colours of the tiles and the walls of the granary should be preferably white, blue or yellow.
•Almirahs or racks should be on the west or on the southern sides of the granary.
•A photo of Laxmi Narayan should be placed on the eastern wall of the granary.
•Sacks containing the annual provisions should be stored in the south-west corner of the granary. The provision for the daily use should be kept in the north-west corner separately. in the southeast corner, at least for 1 or 2 feet nothing should be kept.
•Water should always be kept in pitchers or vessels in the north-east corner of the granary. It must be remembered that they are kept empty.
•Keep oil, ghee, butter, kerosene, gas cylinder etc. in the south-east corner of the granary. It is quite useful and beneficial. If it is a hotel building, milk, curd, buttermilk, butter and others should be kept or stored in the east of the south-east corner of the granary.
•One should not sleep in the granary at night because one will not have a sound sleep. Different thoughts will haunt the mind. However a nap can be taken in the afternoon. There is also no harm in keeping the dining table in the store room.
•Empty containers should not be kept in the granary. If the containers are empty they should be filled up with grains or some other materials. No provision should be taken out of the granary during the twilight period. Care should be taken that there are no cobwebs in the granary.
