Sri Div Teerth located in Gujarat is a Jain pilgrimage centre. The teerth kshetra is situated in the centre of the village Div. The temple is dedicated to Lord Parshvanatha, the twenty-third Jain Tirthankara.
History of Sri Div Teerth
According to history Sri Div Teerth is a very ancient pilgrimage centre. Earlier this place was a rich and a prosperous place and was resided by many people. Many sharvakas also lived here. The name of the village finds its mention in the Kalpasutra that proves its antiquity. Hirvijaysurishvraji came here for his monsoon sojourn after his pilgrimage to Shatrunjaya. It is said that the crown, the garland and the angi i.e. the dress and ornaments of the idol of the Lord were each made at the expenditure of nine lakhs of rupees. Thus the Lord here is known as Navalkha Parshvanatha. Sri Div Teerth belongs to the group of the fine Ajahara Sacred places in Saurashtra. It is believed by the pilgrims visiting the temple from far off places that the idol of Lord Parshvanatha possesses miraculous powers. They come here to offer their prayers to the Lord and receive his blessings. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims.
Temple of Sri Div Teerth
The temple of Sri Div Teerth houses the idol of Bhagwan Navalakha Parshvanatha. It has been brilliantly decorated with intricate designs. The creative temple work depicts the artistic skills of the craftsmen. The walls and pillars of the temple have also been adorned with specimens of ancient art and paintings. The idol of the Lord is 76 cms in height and is yellow in colour. The idol is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very beautiful. The smiling face of the Lord looks very calm and serene. Apart from the temple there are two other beautiful temples located here.
The Temple of Sri Div Teerth organizes many annual gatherings and functions that are celebrated with much enthusiasm. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. These are well equipped with all modern facilities. Apart from this there are Upashrays, an Ayambilshala and a Jnanabhandar. The teerth is situated in the midst of beautiful natural surroundings. Being located in a village the temple is enclosed by scenic beauty and greenery that mesmerizes and fascinates the pilgrims.
