Located in the Barmer district in the state of Rajasthan, the Siwana Fort was once known as the Gadh Siwana Fort and is situated on a hilltop.
History of Siwana Fort
According to bardic tradition, Siwana was established by Vira Narayana, who was the son of the 11th century Paramara king Bhoja. Over the centuries, the fort passed several hands and in 1308, it came under the rule of Alauddin Khilji. He had defeated the local ruler, Sitala Deva, whose heroic defence was commemorated by the locals by organising an annual fair called the "Kalyan Singh ka Meela". This fair is held even today within the fort premises in the Hindu calendar month of Shravana.
In the later years, the Siwana Fort came under the reign of the Chauhans, Mughal Emperor Akbar and the Rathores of Marwar and remained a part of Marwar till independence of India. Currently, the fort is in ruins.

The Mokalsar railway station is the nearest at a distance of 12 km from the fort and the Jodhpur Airport is the closest at a distance of about 120 km from the Siwana Fort.
