The Simla Volunteer Rifle Corps unit, also known as Simla Rifles, was a former infantry unit under the Volunteer Corps of the British Indian Army. The auxiliary regiment was formed on 2nd May 1861 as the as 2nd Punjab (Simla) Volunteer Rifle Corps by the British East India Company. The headquarters of the regiment was established in Simla (Shimla). In 1901, the uniform of the troops was khaki serge and the company detachments were stationed in Kasauli.
Later in 1940, the uniform was modified to Khaki formal dress with green facings. The military badge included the initials "S.R." surmounted by a crown. The motto of the Simla Volunteer Rifle Corps unit was "In Defence".
