ShamirpetShamirpet is the semi urban area in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana. Shamirpet is located in the north outskirts of Hyderabad, the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Shamirpet composed of tranquil surroundings which is the centre of attraction for the nature lovers. It is the abode of an artificial lake named Shamirpet Lake and a deer park, Jawahar Deer Park which is also known as Shamirpet Deer Park.

This semi urban area in Telangana also houses Genome Valley, NALSAR University of Law and BITS Pilani-Hyderabad. Shamerpet, a place of peace and beauty, is 22 kilometers away from Secunderabad Railway station and 34 kilometres from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Katta Maisamma Temple in Shamirpet is located near the Shamirpet Lake. People come there in huge lots especially during weekends to offer prayers. Katta Maisamma Temple is principally dedicated to the Mother Goddess Maisamma. The Goddess Maisamma is a personification of `Shakti` or strength. It is faithfully believed that the worship of this goddess in the Katta Maisamma Temple imparts power within a person by virtue of which he or she can win over all the adversities of life. The people in Andhra Pradesh and the newly formed state Telangana have depicted `Katta Maisamma` as the supreme power in that region. Katta Maisamma has been looked upon as the all powerful, the eternal, as well as the giver of health, prosperity and happiness. `Mother Maisamma` in the Katta Maisamma Temple in Shamirpet is religiously worshiped with great faith and devotion. The temple of Katta Maisamma is famous for Bonalu Festival.

In Shamirpet, Bonalu festival is widely celebrated. Bonalu Festival is an annual festival celebrated in Twin Cities of Hyderabad, Secunderabad and parts of Telangana. This Bonalu Festival is celebrated in the month of Ashada Masam, in July/August. Special poojas are performed for Yellamma on the first and last day of the festival. The festival is also considered a thanksgiving to the Goddess for fulfilment of vows.

Shamirpet is covering with semi urban sites. The Outer Ring Road (ORR) is connected via Shamirpet. This semi urban area is slowly getting urbanised and there is a new boom in real estate housing projects as residents of central Hyderabad, which is now the joint capital of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
