Sayapaneni Nayaks were a Kamma clan who ruled a tiny area of the Telugu region of the country, which was known as `Dupati Seema`. Their regime witnessed the period of rule of the Aravidu dynasty of Vijayanagara and Golconda. Several Kamma clans served as military commanders in the kingdom of Vijayanagar. The clan of the Sayapaneni clan is quite renowned.
History of Sayapenani Nayaks
The king named Krishna Deva Raya had gifted a village of Gudipada, to Shayappa Nayudu. This village was situated near Srisailam. Vengala Nayudu and Venkatadri Nayudu had consolidated the principality of Dupatiseema which consisted of 533 villages. In the year 1802, Thomas Monro had merged the principality of Dupatiseema with the territories which were controlled by the British.
Gangayya Nayudu had reigned during 1564, when Rama Raya had existed. Venkadari, who was his son lived during the time of Venkatipati Raya II and was a poet. His literary work of `Sakalajanasajivanamu` was a famous `Prabandha` in the field of Telugu literature. Venkatamba, who was the wife of Venkatadri was the sister of Pemmasani Thimma Nayudu, who ruled Gandikota during that time. During 1626, the Golconda Sultanate started governing Rayalaseema, who was the contemporary of Gandappa.
The regime of Sayapenani Nayaks saw numerous trials which lasted till the year 1802. It had occurred when Dupatiseema was confiscated by the British East India Company from the Nawab of Golconda.
