Sashtanga

Sashtanga is a form of prostration by which eight parts of the body are made to touch the ground at the same time.

Sashtanga, Form Of Prostration of BodySashtanga is a part of the Shayana Pradakshinam which is done in a lying posture. Sashtanga Namaskara is a form of prostration by which eight parts of the body, the two hands, the two feet, the breast, the forehead, and the two shoulders, are made to touch the ground at the same time.

In Sashtanga Namaskara, therefore the devotees have eight parts of their bodies touch the ground. The folded hands in Sashtanga are headed always towards the God. In this posture, the followers circumambulate on the Pradakshina path. The relatives and friends of the disciples help them to roll around. Sashtanga is a tiresome practice.
