The Samyukta Socialist Party (SSP), also known as the United Socialist Party, was one of the former Indian Political Organisations and was a socialist political party. The Samyukta Socialist Party (SSP) was founded in the year 1964 and existed till 1972. The former socialist party was established through a division in the Praja Socialist Party (PSP) in the year 1964. The Praja Socialist Party (PSP) was formed in September 1952 with the amalgamation of 2 prominent Indian political parties, the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party and the Socialist Party. Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani, also known as Acharya Kripalani, was appointed as the chairman of the Praja Socialist Party (PSP).
In the year 1972, the Samyukta Socialist Party (SSP) was reunited with the Praja Socialist Party (PSP), which led to the formation of the well known Socialist Party. George Fernandes served as the General Secretary of the Samyukta Socialist Party or United Socialist Party from the year 1969 to 1971.
