Rash Behari Bose was born in Subaldaha village of Bardhaman district. He had completed his education in Chandannagar. He had left Bengal as he was not supporting the Alipore bomb case. Thereafter he went to Dehradun where through Amarendra Chatterjee of Jugantar he was in touch with the revolutionaries of Bengal. Through Jatindra Nath, one of the earliest political disciples of Aurobindo Ghosh he came across several well known revolutionaries of Arya Samaj in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
After attempting to assassinate Lord Hardinge, he was forced to hide. Police was searching him constantly as he was involved in anti government activities. During World War I he was extensively involved in the Ghadar Conspiracy that made an attempt to trigger a rebellion in India in February 1915. Ghadrites were sent to cantonments to penetrate into the army. The idea was that as European army was engaged in war, the rest could be easily won. This failed and many revolutionaries were arrested. However Rash Behari managed to escape and reached Japan in 1915.
He stayed in Japan for long time and married the daughter of Soma Aizo and Soma Kotsuko, noted Pan-Asian supporters in 1918. He became a Japanese citizen in 1923. There he lived as a journalist and a writer. He persuaded the government of Japan to stand by the Indian nationalists. He convened a conference in Tokyo in 1942 and decided to establish the Indian Independence League. At the conference he moved a motion to raise an army for Indian liberation. A second conference League was convened at Bangkok in 1942 when a resolution was adopted to invite Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to join the League and take its command as its president.
In January 21, 1945 he passed way. Netaji on the organisational spadework of Rash Behari Bose built the Indian National Army. He was killed near the end of World War II. The Japanese Government honoured him with the Order of the Rising Sun.
