Ramanadeeswaram ramanathar Temple

Ramanadeeswaram ramanathar Temple is 77th in the series of Tevara Stalams located south of the river Kaveri.

Legend: Rama worshipped Shiva on his way back to Ayodhya, and hence the name Ramanadeeswaram. Vibhishana was blessed by Perumaal. It is believed that Nandi stood in the way of Rama`s worship and Parvati held him with her arm, hence the name Ramanandeeswaram. The Somaskanda image is at Tiruppugalur and portrays Parvati holding the Nandi.

Temple: The Vimanam over the sanctum is beautiful for a rather small temple. Brahma, Dakshinamurthy and Durga are found in the niches in the sanctum. Inscriptions from the period of Kulottunga Chola are seen here. The central shrine was laid during the period of Kulottunga Chola I (1075-1120). It was renovated in the days of Kulottunga II and again in the later Pandyan days.
