Buddhism affirms that Rahula was the prince and son of Sakya. Sakya was the name of the author or reviver of Buddhism. Sakya`s birth appears to have occurred in the seventh, and death in the sixth century before Christ.
Sakya was the twenty-second of the line of Ikshvaku was contemporary with Ripunjaya, the last of the kings of Magadha. The Buddhists always consider their teacher Sakya to be descended from Ikshvaku.
