Pushpavananathar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located close to Thiruvarur in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and has been mentioned in the many hymns composed by the Indian saint Appar. The temple is said to be classified as `Paadal Petra Sthalam` and is existent at a distance of about 5 kms away from the south-western part of Thiruvaiyaru. The Tamil saint Appar lived during the 7th century. Dravidian style of architecture can be observed in the Pushpavananathar Temple, being composed of granite. Chola architectural patterns have been gracefully implemented in this temple. The geographical coordinates of the temple is between 10 ° 51 minutes North and 79 ° 4 minutes East.
Sapta Sthanam at Pushpavananathar Temple
Sapta Sthanam festival is organised at the area of Thivaiyaru during the month of April every year. Seven palanquins are paraded near the car stand, carrying the principal deities of the seven temples involving Pushpavananathar Temple, Aiyarappar Temple, Kandeeswarar Temple, Neyyadiappar Temple, Vedapuriswarar Temple, Odhanavaneswarar Temple and Apathsahayar Temple. A brilliant flower festival or `Poochorithal` is conducted here, in which a doll offers flowers to the deities of the palanquins.
