Purbasthali is situated in Bardhaman district, at a distance of about 120 kilometres from Kolkata and between Nabadwip and Katwa. It is a small town on the bank of oxbow lake, formed by the Ganga River. This 2-3 long lake gathers a number of migratory birds during winters. The place is greatly cherished by the bird watchers. Purbasthali lies close on the Tropic of Cancer. Purbasthali is a large block with a number of villages adjoining a large oxbow lake, created by the Ganga River, on its Western bank, in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. It is 120 km north from Kolkata. On the Eastern bank of the river lays the old and holy town of Nabadwip. The entire Gangetic Isle complex of Purbasthali extends between the geographical co-ordinates from 88degree 19 minutes 45 seconds to 88 degree 22 minutes East longitude 23 degree 26 minutes to 23 degree 26 minutes 45 seconds North latitude.
Purbasthali in West Bengal is located on the agriculturally rich alluvial plains between the Bhagirathi River, Ajay River and Damodar River. The temperature in this region varies from 17-18 degree Celsius in winter to 30-32 degree Celsius in summer. The whole area of Purbasthali is covered with greenery, fruit-gardens, flower-gardens and agricultural fields producing a considerable amount of vegetables and fruits for export.

Nabadwip is famed for being the birth place of a Hindu Saint, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Headquarters of ISKCON is located in Mayapur. Boat ride in the lake is immensely pleasing and the clear water of the lake allows a beautiful view of the underground vegetation.
Winters are the ideal time for visiting Purbasthali, in the months of October to February. The place also houses a guest house for providing accommodation and other facilities to the tourists.
