The Princely State of Daphlapur, also known as Daflapur, was one of the former non-salute native state that was incorporated as a part of the Kolhapur Agency. The territory was also a part of the Deccan States Agency. Daphlapur State was administered by a native prince who supervised the internal affairs of the state under the guidance of the British authorities. The region covered a total area of 96 sq miles and comprised of a total population of 8,833 in the year 1921. The state of Daphlapur comprised of 6 villages that were situated in 3 distinctive blocks of land that were enclaved within Jath.
History of Princely State of Daphlapur
The native rulers of the Daphlapur state were Daphle Chitpavan Brahmins. After the last male native ruler in the year 1850, the state was governed by the 3 widows of the rulers, who held the title of Rani Bai Sahiba. The senior widow of the late native ruler, Rani Bai Sahiba Lakshmi Bai Dafle ascended the throne in the year 1907. after her death in the year 1917, Daphlapur state was reassigned to Jath and was incorporated into the princely state of Jath. The Princely State of Daphlapur or Daflapur was a non salute state. The territory was under the administrative control of the native ruler. The Political Agent, also known as the Resident of British India, managed the associations of the state with the British Government and other native state. The ruler took several progressive steps for the development of the state and the betterment of the people. The revenue of Daphlapur state was more than the other states of the Deccan states Agency.
The jagirs of Akalkot, Jath, Aundh, Bhor and Daphlapur, all subordinated to Satara, came into existence during the 18th century. It became independent in the year 1848, after the British Empire in India annexed Satara. The Princely State of Daphlapur, along with the princely state of Phaltan, the princely state of Bhor, the princely state of Aundh and the princely state of Akalkot, were granted full judicial authority in the year 1921.
On 15th August 1947 the nation attained freedom from the dominion of the British Government in India and it resulted in the partition of India. The former native states of India were given the option of merging with the newly formed Union of India or the Dominion of Pakistan. The last native ruler of the princely state of Daphlapur acceded his state to the Republic of India. At present, the region is a part of the modern Indian state of Maharashtra.
