Pratishthana

Pratishthana was the capital of Sudyumna and was situated on the eastern side of the confluence of the Ganges and Jamuna.

Pratishthana is the country between which rivers was the territory of the direct male descendants of Vaivaswata. In consequence of his having been a female formerly, Sudyumna was excluded from any share in his paternal dominions; but his father, at the suggestion of Vasishtha,

bestowed upon him the city Pratishthana, and he gave it to Pururavas. Pratishthana is also the name of capital of the Satavahana Empire of ancient India that ruled from 2nd century BC to 2nd century AD. It is one of the few inland towns named in the famous 1st century AD. Paithan (is the modern name of Pratishthana and falls in Aurangabad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
