Peruvelur avimukteswarar Temple is a maadakkoyil and is surrounded by 12 other shrines. It is regarded as the 92nd in the series of Tevara Stalams south of the river Kaveri.
Legends: Subramanyar worshipped here hence the name Velur and Vishnu prayed to Shiva to get rid of his Mohini form. Gowtama and Bhringi Munis are also believed to have worshipped Shiva here. This temple is connected to the legend of the fight between Aadi Seshan and Vayu.
The temple faces east. It has three-tiered Rajagopuram. There are shrines here dedicated to Ganesha, Vaikunta Narayana Perumaal, and Subramanya. The ambaal shrine also faces the east. There are also shrines here to Mahalingeswarar, Saraswateeswarar, Jambukeswarar, Bhramapureeswarar, Bhairavar, Surya, Saneeswara and Durga.
Festival: This small temple celebrates Kartikai Deepam each year.
