Parmara`s Contribution in the field of art

Architecture had reached its zenith during this period. The Parmara kings were great builders. The most prominent Parmara king in this respect is Munja. Regarding him, Dr. D. C. Ganguly has written: "He was not only a great general and a great poet, but also a great patron of art and culture."

Following artistic works are attributed to Munja. Some are mentioned below.

• he built many temples in Dharmapuri and Maheshwara,
• He founded a city called Mujapur. It was the prominent city of Gujarat during his reign.
• He made his capital Dharanagari and beautifully decorated it as well.
• He built many buildings and tanks in Dharanagari. The most prominent of his tanks is munja-sagar.
• He built big temples in Ujjain.

After Munja there was another Parmara king who took special interest in construction works. According to K. M. Munshi: "He was a great builder, perhaps the great in the seven hundred years under review."

Bhoja built the following prominent things

• Bhoja shala i.e. university of Dharanagari.
• A temple of Saraswati built near the university in Dharanagaii.
• Bhojasagar tank.
• tank of Kapaleshwaia.
• Many Siva temples.

Bhoja was a worshipper of Siva and built temples of different forms of Siva.

Thus it can be seen that kings of Parmara dynasty were great builders and their contribution in the field of architecture, sculpture etc. was quite praiseworthy. It has been rightly remarked by a scholar that during the 500 years after Harshavardhan, no king can equal much less surpass Bhoja in respect of his contribution in the field of literature and art.
