Odhanavaneswarar Temple is also known as `Oppillaselvar Temple` and is a 7th century Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva, erected in the style of the 9th century Chola architecture. It is located at a distance of about 5 kms away from the eastern part of Thiruvaiyaru and nearly 3 kms away from Thirukkandivur in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The hymns belonging to Appar, who was a Tamil poet of the 7th century have mentioned about this temple which is referred to as a site of `Paadal Petra Sthalam`.
Sapta Sthanam
The festival of Sapta Sthanam is organised at the region of Thrivaiyaru in the month of April every year, and is attended by innumerable people who love witnessing the collection of seven palanquins which possess principal deities of the seven temples from seven different places at Thiruvaiyaru. The seven temple include Aiyarappar Temple, Apathsahayar Temple, Odhanavaneswarar Temple, Vedapurishwarar Temple, Puvananathar Temple, Kandeeswarar Temple and Neyyadiappar Temple, all located at Thanjavur District. The festival is marked by the parading of the decorated palanquins close to the car stand. `Poochorithal` or flower festival is held, in which a doll gives flowers to the deities present inside the palanquins. After the conclusion of the festival, the palanquins are taken to their respective temples.
