Nath Siddha Jalandhara

The name of Nath Siddha Jalandhara is derived from "Brother of the Net" and is also known in Bengal as Hadipa, meaning, "born from bone Qxadd of Shiva." Nath Siddha Jalandhara is named after one of the four most sacred sites or pithas of tantric practice. Jalandhara, located in the Kangra valley of northwest India and close to the modem city of Jullundar is a popular place to practice the tantras.

In the Nath legends it is said that Nath Siddha Jalandhara was earlier known as Hadipa. He was a sweeper of Bengal who became the guru to the young king Gopichand. Gopichand doubted his guru`s integrity and ordered his followers to get Hadipa buried alive in a pit. After twelve years, Gorakhnath, and Kanipa travelled to Bengal to inform his teacher Hadipa`s disciple Kanipa of this event. When Hadipa emerged alive from his trial, Gopichand repented of his actions and abdicated his throne to follow the Nath path of his teacher Hadipa.

Nath Siddha Jalandhara was a great exponent of Hatha and Kundalini Yogas. Gorakhnath comments that the term Hatha means "forceful" and made up of the two syllables ha and tha representing the solar and lunar channels which are forced into union (yoga) in the central channel of human body called the Sushumna.
