Naranthal Temple

Naranthal Temple goes back in historical times of the medieval era, built approximately in the 12th century. The peculiarity of the temple is its roof, which consists of a single plain pyramid with a circular mortice in the centre. The ceiling architecture is akin to the Narastan Temple (ancient shrine in Pulwama district of J&K) and the Fathgarh Temple. The walls of the cellar move up vertically until they reach a level of the overhang. The pyramidal roof that starts from there forms the ceiling. It is believed that the Naranthal Temple once stood atop a tank; there is also a spring nearby. Large parts of the temple have sunk into the ground in due course of its long existence. The entrance to the temple is through an eastern arched entrance. Naranthal Temple is easily accessible from Baramulla by road. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi.
