Nagri Tea Estate, Darjeeling Tea EstatesNagri Tea Estate is one of the oldest and finest tea gardens of Darjeeling district in West Bengal. It lies in the Rungbong Valley in south-west Darjeeling town. It was set up in the year 1883. The garden stands at an altitude ranging from 2400 to 6500 feet and covers an area of 256 acres under tea plantation out of a total land area of about 570 hectares and produces Darjeeling black, green and white tea. Nagri Tea Estate employs 900 workers and is organic in its nature of production.

Etymology and Legend of Nagri Tea Estate
Nagri is locally known as "Makarjung". The name "Nagri" is derived from the words "Nav Gauri", meaning the 9 incarnations of the Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, the goddess in various forms appeared on the earth to the slay demons and bring peace to the world.

Production of Tea at Nagri Tea Estate
Nagri Tea Estate is a 100% certified bio-organic tea garden which produces both orthodox and green tea. Reportedly, it produces about 200 million tonnes of tea annually. It produces all varieties of tea from the first flush, second flush and autumn flush. Amongst the three, the first flush is a famous brand which is harvested somewhere between March to mid-April. The tea leaves have a demand both in the national and international market.

Nagri Tea Estate is on gentle slopes and boasts a mixed variety of China and Assam hybrids. Apart from tea, the garden is also home to exotic orchids, deliciously sweet oranges, ginger and cardamom.
