Moolaraja I

Moolaraja Solanki was the founder of the Chalukya dynasty of Anhilwada. In 941 A.D. he had acquired the kingdom of Chapo-takata i.e. Chayada after killing his maternal uncle. He was a brave ruler and immediately after ascending the throne he brought Saraswati Mandal under his authority. Thereafter he defeated Samanta Dhatanivarha of Pratihara king and established his authority over Saurashtra. It is also said that after attacking king Lakha of Kutch he incorporated his kingdom into his empire.

War with Chahamanas: The Chahamana king Vigrahapala III was the contemporary of Moolaraja. Vigrahapala attacked Moolaraja and after conquering some portion of Gujarat he reached the bank of river Narmada. According to Hamnair kavya Moolaraja was killed in the little between the two arms, but this seem to be an aggression. Scholars are of the view that there might have been some small war between them but later on they entered into a `treaty` as well.

War with Parraaras: Moolaraja had been defeated by the Parmara king Munja. He sought shelter in the desert of Marwad but later on he re conquered his kingdom.

War with the Chalukyas of Kalyani: Moolaraja had also fought, against the Chalukyas of Kalyani. Samanta Barapa of Chalukya king Taila II had attacked Moolaraja but was defeated by Moolaraja`s son Chamundaraja.

War with Kalachuris of Tripuri: Kalachuri king Lakshman Raj had also attacked but Moolaraja had defeated him. Moolaraja I ruled from 42 to 995 A.D. His capital was Anhilwada. He was a follower of Shaiva religion and built some temples towards the end of his reign. Moolaraja died in 997 A.D.
