Mandhradevi Kalubai Temple

The religious centre is located at a distance of almost 20 km from Satara overlooking the striking Purandar fort. Devotees visiting the temple attribute astounding features to a grove around the shrine. According to the local tradition the temple dates back to almost 400 years old and was constructed during the reign of Shivaji. However, there is no construction date is available.

The name of the land has been kept as per the name of the Lord Mandeshwar and Kaleshwari Devi. The presiding deity of the temple Kalubai is adorned with two silver masks and silk finery. During a grand procession the masks are carried by members of the Gurav family. Different members of the family take their own chances of conducting the rituals.

Kalubai Jatra Pilgrimage
Mandherdevi Kalubai temple is flanked by devotees to participate in the Kalubai Jatra pilgrimage conducted for a period of almost ten days every year in the month of January. The main occasion is celebrated throughout the day on the full moon day. The celebrations include animal sacrifices in the name of the demons of goddess whom she has annihilated. Devotees flocking the temple in thousands offer nivad of puran poli (a sweet) and curd rice to the goddess. The goddess in whose honour the annual fair is organised is also fondly referred to as Kalubai.
