The actress shot to fame by portraying the role of `Paro` in the Bollywood flick Dev.D which also won her the prestigious Filmfare Award. She began her career with the Punjabi film industry and later moved to Bollywood. Although initially her career involved much struggle, she later managed to gather immense appreciations from the critics as well as audiences.

Early Life of Mahi Gill
Mahi Gill was born on 19th December 1975 as Rimpy Kaur Gill in Chandigarh, Punjab. She did her post graduation in theatres from Punjab University, Chandigarh, in the year 1998.

Career of Mahi Gill
Mahi Gill made her cinematic debut with the Punjabi based Bollywood flick Hawayein. Subsequently she appeared in small roles in a few films which could not render her prominence in the entertainment world. She also acted in a few Punjabi films and was a regular performer in theatres. Acclaimed Indian director Anurag Kashyap spotted Mahi Gill at a party and instantly selected her for essaying the role of `Paro` in his film Dev.D. The film was a modern take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay`s Bengali novella Devdas. Both the movie and her acting earned critical acclamations which rendered Mahi recognition in the Hindi film industry. Subsequently she also worked in Ram Gopal Verma`s Bollywood film Not a Love Story, based on Niraj Grover murder case of 2008. She also starred in the 2011 Hindi movie Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster alongside Randeep Hooda and Jimmy Shergill. Her outstanding portrayal of the character of a sexually frustrated Begum Madhavi Devi earned her further fame, critical appreciations and a nomination at the Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. She also proved her acting skills in the sequel of the film titled Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.

Mahi Gill also appeared in Paan Singh Tomar along with Irrfan Khan. The film was based on the true story of an athlete who turned dacoit and Mahi portrayed the role of the wife of title character. She stepped in the Telugu film industry with Apoorva Lakhia`s film Toofan. She also starred in its Hindi version Zanjeer. She marked her first item number in Tigmanshu Dhulia`s Bullett Raja, featuring Saif Ali Khan. Other movies in which Mahi Gill acted include Khoya Khoya Chand, Gulaal, Dabangg, Aagey Se Right, Gang of Ghosts and many more.

Achievements of Mahi Gill
In the year 2010 Mahi Gill won Filmfare Awards for Best Actress (Critics) for the movie Dev.D. She also received Screen Awards for Most Promising Newcomer - Female and IIFA Star Debut Award in the same year and for the same movie. In 2013 she won BIG Star Entertainment Award for Most Entertaining Actor in a thriller Film - Female for her performance in the film Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.
