Mahakavi Bharathi Memorial Library, Erode District, Tamil NaduMahakavi Bharathi Memorial Library is situated in the city of Erode in the Erode district of the Indian state Tamil Nadu. The library is also popular as Karungalpalayam Library, for being situated in the Karungalpalayam locality, and Bharathiyar Memorial Library. It was named in the memory of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi, a Tamil patriotic poet. In addition to being a rich repertoire of books, the library greatly illuminates the life and works of the poet.

History of Mahakavi Bharathi Memorial Library
Mahakavi Bharathi Memorial Library was initially opened as a reading room with the name Karungalpalayam Reading Room for the local people. Later in the year 1921, after the visit of renowned Indian poet, journalist, social reformer and Indian independence activist Subramanya Bharathi, the reading room was transformed to a public library and was named after him. Mahakavi Bharathi visited the Karungalpalayam Reading Room for delivering a speech on the topic `Man is Immortal` on July 31, 1921. It was his last public speech after which he fell ill and died a few weeks later. For the upgradation of the reading room Erode administration extensively renovated the old building.

Mahakavi Bharathi Memorial Library houses a rich collection of the books encompassing various subjects and numerous volumes of articles. In addition to these, a minor historical museum is also there which has exhibits related to the life of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathi. It hosts various books and portraits of the poet. The lectures he had delivered in public meetings and his writings in the daily `Swadesamitran` Tamil paper have also been displayed in the library.
