Maa Majhigharini Temple is an important shrine located in the town of Rayagada in the Indian state of Orissa. The temple dedicated to the Devi is located at a distance of 109 kms from Koraput District. According to the rituals of the temple, only the face of the goddess is worshipped.
As per a legend famous in the region, the Devi is being worshipped by the local for centuries while the temple has been built recently. The temple mostly famous among the denizens of Chhatisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa is primarily visited by pilgrims on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday.
Maa Majhigharini Temple celebrates several festivals every year that reflect the rich cultural tradition of the region. Chaitra Parab is a traditional festival of Maa Majhighariani celebrated during the months of March-April. Another significant festival, Rayagada Utsav is also celebrated by the temple with much vigour. The festival organised in January usually highlights the art and craft and dance and music of the local tribals. Every year the grand celebration for Gram Devata is organised for 9 days during the months of March-April. The puja committee of Maa Majhigharini Temple conducts several fairs and fiesta and tribal functions during the festive seasons. The temple also celebrates Dussehra in October with much zest and gusto. It is a general belief among the pilgrims that by worshipping the Devi and receiving her blessings all wishes are fulfilled.
Maa Majhigharini Temple is well connected by all modes of transport. By NH-43 road Raygada is at a distance of 109 kms from Koraput and 200 kms from Visakhapatnam. Thus, tourists can avail buses plying from these cities for the temple. The nearest railway station is at Rayagarda. The nearest airport is located at Vishakhapatnam at a distance of 200 kms.
