In Hinduism, Libations is a ritual sacrifice or oblation offered to the gods, sages, and progenitors, with the parts of the hand severally sacred to each. It is executed to please gods, sages and progenitors to attain boon. An important element is the sacrificial fire into which oblations are poured, as everything that is offered in the divine Agni is believed to reach the gods and the demi-gods.
The person who offers libations and performs it have to first bathe, dress in clean clothes, and scatter water trice to gratify the gods. As many times he pleases the Rishis he will have to be clean. He must also make three libations to satisfy the progenitors.
