Laddukapriya means the one who likes to eat Modakas and Laddoos (sweet balls). It is one of the renowned forms of Lord Ganesha. The Laddukapriya form is considered to be enchanting and blissful. A devotee can achieve the blessings of the elephant-headed Hindu god by worshipping and offering sweet balls to Laddukapriya. According to a legend mentioned in the Skanda Purana, once Lord Shiva hid himself and none of the gods could find him. Then Lord Brahma requested Lord Ganesha to find his father Shiva. Brahma promised Ganesha to reward Him with a sweet ball if He could successfully find Shiva. The elephant-headed Lord easily traced Lord Shiva and earned his reward. Thus, he was named Laddukapriya.
Lord Ganesha is depicted holding laddoos and modakas which represent enchantment and joy. This delight and pleasure which the deity bestows to his worshippers leads to moksha or salvation. Moreover, the sweet balls also portray supreme intelligence or Maha Buddhi. The worshippers of Ganesha, known as Ganapatyas, believe that the laddoos and modakas also represent the embryo of life.
