Kurangaaduturai Temple temple is considered to be the 49th in the series of Tevara Stalams located north of the river Kaveri. This temple is located at Kurangaaduturai near Kumbhakonam, Tiruvaiyaru. The deity worshipped here is Shiva.
Legends: Vaali worshipped Shiva here at Vada Kurangaaduturai.. A sparrow also worshipped Shiva here. Hanuman who lost his tail at Rameswaram regained it here. Dayaniteeswarar or Kulaivanangu Naathar came to the aid of a thirsty devotee by bending a coconut tree so she could fetch a tender coconut.
Temple: A five-tiered Rajagopuram is seen atop the entrance of this temple. It has two prakarams and a spacious front courtyard. Stucco figures representing the legends are seen here. A stone image of Vaali worshipping Shiva adorns the sanctum.
There are inscriptions from the Chola period in this temple. Stone images of Nataraja and Sivakami adorn the Natarajar Sabhai shrine also called Aadi Chidambaram, and Naalikeravanam.
