History of Konda Reddy Fort
Named after Konda Reddy, the last ruler of Alampur who was imprisoned in the fort by the Kurnool Nawab in 17th century, the Konda Reddy Fort was constructed back in the 12th century. It was during this time that the city of Kurnool was used as a base for halting before crossing Tungabhadra River. The fort was built by the two Vijaynagara rulers Devaraya II and Achyutaraya from 1530 to 1542.

With different gateways and bastions, the Konda Reddy Fort has three levels, where the gateways of the fort were constructed by Gopal Raja, who was the grandson of Rama Raja of Talikota Vijayanagara kings in 17th century. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Konda Reddy Fort was used as a watchtower. The first two levels of the fort are open to the public while the ground floor is closed to tourists.
