Koilsagar Dam is located at Koilsagar Village of Deverakadra Mandal in Mahabubnagar District of Telangana. This Telangana is the newly formed state in India after separated from Andhra Pradesh. Koilsagar Dam is one of the famous tourist attractions of Mahabubnagar District.
Koilsagar Dam is a medium size irrigation project constructed at a cost of Rs.80 crores during the rule of Nizam government period during 1945-1948, that was the regime of British colonial rule in India. The proposal to construct a dam was put forward by the British rulers to collect and store the excess water in catchments area of the Krishna River for irrigation purposes.
The foundation stone for the Koilsagar Dam was laid in 1947 soon after the Indian Independence. The construction of Koilsagar Dam was completed in 1954 and inaugurated by K. M. Kharju, the first Honourable Agriculture Minister of India of The Government of Indian Union.
Koilsagar Dam is about 12 Kilometres from the Devarakonda Mandal. Devarakonda Mandal is head quarters in between Mahaboobnagar district of Telangana and Raichur district of Karnataka.
