This Telangana is the newly formed state in India after separated from Andhra Pradesh. Koilsagar Dam is one of the famous tourist attractions of Mahabubnagar District.

Koilsagar Dam is a medium size irrigation project constructed at a cost of Rs.80 crores during the rule of Nizam government period during 1945-1948, that was the regime of British colonial rule in India. The proposal to construct a dam was put forward by the British rulers to collect and store the excess water in catchments area of the Krishna River for irrigation purposes.

The foundation stone for the Koilsagar Dam was laid in 1947 soon after the Indian Independence. The construction of Koilsagar Dam was completed in 1954 and inaugurated by K. M. Kharju, the first Honourable Agriculture Minister of India of The Government of Indian Union.

Koilsagar Dam is about 12 Kilometres from the Devarakonda Mandal. Devarakonda Mandal is head quarters in between Mahaboobnagar district of Telangana and Raichur district of Karnataka.

This project for Koilsagar Dam was constructed to meet the irrigation needs about 12 thousands acres of land. It is a beautiful project and was constructed in a picturesque location between two mountains on Peddavagun River. Tourist can easily find the accommodation near the Koilsagar Dam. The scenic beauty offers the national and international tourists.

Koilsagar Dam is about eight kilometres from Koil Konda village of Mahabubnagar District of Telangana. This dam stretches across the Peddavagu, a minor tributary of the Krishna River, one of the most important river of South India after Godavari River- The River of The South. The western elongation of this quaint basin is surrounded by high hills. This place of irrigational excellence makes the place near Koilsagar Dam, a most beautiful spot for nature and leisure tourism. Beside the Koilsagar Dam, which was located on Koli Sagar there is an ancient Hindu Temple of Chalukyan Architecture and Sculpture called Veerabadhra Temple, which is also called as Koil Konda. Every year there is a celebration held by nearby villagers.
