Kimpurusha Kingdom

The Puranas says that Kimpurusha Kingdom refers to the territory of a tribe called Kimpurushas. Kimpurushas were the native tribes of Ancient India. They were the inhabitants of the Himalaya Mountains. The Kimpurushas were represented as super human beings or as natural spirits, in the psyche of the Vedic people.

Kimpurushas are described as the demigods, attached to the service of Kuvera, the god of wealth. Kimpurushas were the lion-headed beings. They were heavily bearded headed so compared with lion. In the Puranas, Kimpurushas were mentioned as horse-headed, or the tribe of horse-warriors, the Kambojas.

Kimpurushas are mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. Here they are mentioned as half-lions and half-men. Kimpurushas are related to the exotic tribes like the Rakshasas, Vanaras, Kinnaras and Yakshas. Sage Pulaha, sage Pulastya and Sage Kratu belonged to the Kimpurushas. Marichi, Angiras, Atri, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Kratu were mentioned as the six great sages, who probably created the six great clans.
