Kaudinya Mahaganapti is one of the most celebrated Ganesha temples in Kurdamale, Kolar district in the state of Karnataka. The temple is also known Kutachal temple and Ganeshgiri. The prime idol of the elephant-headed Maha Ganapati is almost 9 feet high and is created of green marble.
The revered Sage Koudinya resided in his ashrama in here. Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva prayed to Ganesha before fighting the demon Tripurasura. Lord Ganesha promised to provide support to the gods during the combat. Hence it is also known Kutachal or Ganeshgiri. The region was also the capital of the Hoysala Empire.
