Jhallong or Jhalang" is a village in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. This tourist spot is 99 km from Siliguri. The magnificent natural beauty of the place makes it ideal as a tourist destination.

Jhallong History of Jhallong
Jhallong is situated on the banks of Jaldhaka River. It came into existence around the first Hydel Power Project of India which was established in 1967. Nature can be closely explored among the hills, river and forest of Jhallong.

Jhallong Township and Connectivity
The township of Jhallong is very near to the India-Bhutan border which is about 105 km from Siliguri. The place has a well connectivity of rails and roads. Even cars can be hired from Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri station. New Mal Junction is the nearest rail station whereas Bagdogra is the nearest airport. The journey from New Jalpaiguri station to Jhallong comprises of majestic hills, beautiful forest and villages.

Tourist Attraction of Jhallong
Jhallong River Camp serves as a major tourist attraction. The serenity and peaceful ambience of the place along with the roar of Jhallong River makes the place immensely inviting.

The forest is home to substantial population of elephant, bison, boar, leopard, deer and many other species of animals. The place is also considered as a paradise for birdwatchers as it houses numerous hill birds and migratory water fowls. Other birds such as kingfisher, redstart, brown dipper and laughing thrush are also common here. Across the Jaldhaka River, on the opposite of bank a green plateau climbs up in Bhutan

It is also ideal for trekkers and adventure loving tourists. Catering and musical performances by the local folks adds to the enjoyment of the tourists at camping sites. The view of sunrise from the campsite is amazing which intensifies the natural beauty of Himalayas and forms another allurement for the tourists visiting Jhallong.

Tourists to Jhallong can also visit the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary which houses variety of fauna and flora. This forest is home to the `gaur` or Indian bison, reptiles, Royal Bengal tiger, deer and elephant as well as several species of birds.

Bindu Dam is also a popular site in Jhallong which serves as the water supply to the Jaldhaka Hydro Electricity Project and also acts as a bridge to cross over to Bhutan. Godak and Cardamom Curing Centre are other popular locations in Jhallong.
