Jasmine Simhalan, Indian DancerJasmine Simhalan is an Indian Dancer hailing from Chennai. She has a specialisation in martial arts. Jasmine Simhalan was born on November 13th, in the year 1970.

Jasmine Simhalan is a practitioner of the Indian Martial Arts. Her father was Simhalan Madhava Panicker, who was a well known martial artist from India.

Career of Jasmine Simhalan
Jasmine Simhalan is a martial arts instructor in Silambam and a Gurukkal in Kalarippayattu. Simhalan is also a dance performer and choreographer based in the United Kingdom and India. Jasmine Simhalan also has been a part of physical theatre and Indian contemporary form of dance, theatre and martial art forms for the past twenty years.

Jasmine Simhalan has been trained in martial arts including Kalarippayattu, Silambam fencing and Marmam. She has also been trained in Indian dance including Bharatanatyam, martial dance Chhau and Mohiniyattam. She is best known for incorporation of martial arts in dances.

Jasmine Simhalan has been part of most of the Indian dance production houses since 1987. She was the part of the Indian Chandralekha (dancer) group from 1988-1993, and Shobana Jeyasingh dance company (1993-2003) as a dancer and educational/ workshop leader.

At the same time, Jasmine Simhalan has worked as a soloist and a choreographer. Jasmine Simhalan has toured and performed in productions of Wayne McGregor (UK), Richard Alston (UK), Laurie Booth (UK), Roger Sinha (Canada), Mavin Khoo (UK), and was also part of the 2001 Basement Jaxx album and Emergency Exit Arts production Runga Rung. In the summer of 2000, Jasmine Simhalan both choreographed for and performed in the production, "Coming of Age", directed by Keith Khan.

The works of Jasmine Simhalan are showed in television and Indian films. The television soaps and the films include "Check" by Amarjeeth Singh, and Away Game, a BBC production. Chathi is her physical theatre choreography based on the warriors of Northern Ballads like Aromal Chekavar, Chathiyan channthu etc. of 16th century in Kerala. She has toured in the United Kingdom and Europe. Jasmine Simhalan also directed and performed well in "Ghost", a street theatre act and video installation, which was viewed at the Somerset House. Jasmine Simhalan directed and performed SPILT, a video installation for London Mela.

Jasmine Simhalan runs awareness programmes across South India (setting up programmes for integrating good health through Kalaripayattu, Yoga and Pilates in South Indian educational system, closely working with varied NGO`s and Government bodies.
