Jalaun District

Jalaun District is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This district is named after the town of Jalaun, which happens to be the headquarters of Maratha governor. But the administrative headquarters of this district is at Orai.

Some of the other large towns in the district include Konch, Kalpi and Madhogarh. This district is a part of Jhansi Division and has an area of 4565 km square, with an approx population count of 1,455,859 (according to 2001 census) and population density of 319 people per km square.

The district is located entirely within the level plain of Bundelkhand, north of the hill country, and is bordered by the Yamuna River to the north, tributaries of Betwa River to the south and Pahuj River to the west. The central part of the district is a dead level of cultivated land, which is almost barren with trees and dotted with village population.

The southern portion represents a total uninterrupted sheet of cultivation and the Non River flow through the centre of the district that it drains by many small ravines. The district has been under severe drought for the last four years with the average rainfall being about 399 mm which is way behind the average of about 800 mm.
