Jag Niwas, presently known as Taj Lake Palace, is a hotel located in the Lake Pichola, Udaipur.

Currently, it has been turned into a hotel with 83 rooms and suites featuring white marble walls that is managed by the Taj Group of Hotels. This palace was formerly known as Jag Niwas and now it is called Taj Lake Palace. The palace was built over an area of 16,000 square meters. The hotel operates a speed boat which transports guests to the hotel from a jetty at the City Palace.

History of Jag Niwas
Palace Jag Niwas was built in 1746 by Maharana Jai Singh II with white marble as a summer palace. Originally, the Palace was named as Jag Niwas after the name of its founder. In the later years, the Palace was used as the summer resort by the descendants of Jagat Singh.

Architecture of Jag Niwas
The architecture of the Jag Niwas Palace is astounding. It has a series of courtyards that are aligned with numerous columns, terraces, beautiful fountains and well laid gardens. The palace also comprises several rooms by the name of Bada Mahal, Khush Mahal, Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal and Dhola Mahal. These rooms are adorned with carved arches, paintings, crystal work, stained glass work, inland stones of pink and green lotus leaves.

Maharana Pratap Airport and Udaipur Railway Station are the nearest mediums to reach this palace. This place can also be reached by road via National Highway 19 and 27.
