Indradyumna tank is a small reservoir which is included among the five sacred tanks of Puri. Because of its spiritual significance the devotees often take a dip in this tank. Located at the north western side of Gundincha temple, Indradyumna tank is renowned for its spiritual significance and its relation with Lord Sri Krishna. This sacred tank includes a shrine of little child Lord Krishna in the form of Bal Gopala and the shrine of King Indradyumna which are located at the bank of the lake. Besides its spirituality the tank is also known for the legend of ashwameda yagna. According to the local legends the tank originally served as the yagna kund in which Ashwameda yagna used to be performed. A number of Brahims used to participate in this Yagna. As the yagna was arranged by king Indradyumna, this associated the place with King Indradyumna after whom the tank came to be known as Indradyumna tank. The tank is 396 feet wide and 485 feet long which covers an area of four and a half acres. As mentioned earlier the place is famous for being associated with Lord Krishna`s childhood which proves the austerity of the place. Along with the temple of Lord Krishna the tank also includes a number of small temples dedicated of a number of Hindu gods and goddesses.
Thus surrounded with a number of staircases which serve as a Ghat of the tank it is one of the most sacred tanks of Puri where the deities of Lord Jaganatha, Subhadra and Balabhadra is constructed. With a number of legends this place has been equally known and is popular enough among the visitors who visit Puri.
