Indian Music Bands are the musical groups that have created a renaissance in Indian music by involving loud music beats, contemporary ideas and conscious words. Although the music of India included multiple varieties of folk, popular, pop, and classical music, the tradition has been reinforced with rock bands in different parts of the country, especially in the metropolitan cities.
Indian pop music has given birth to the Indian music bands often known as Indipop or Indi-pop bands presents an amalgamation of Indian folk and classical music, and modern beats from diverse parts of the world. Indian popular music began initially with root-grass efforts made by Alisha Chinoy. Most of the Indian music bands comes from the Indian Film Industry or Bollywood and are working in co-operation, like Euphoria, Stereo Nation and so on. Until the 1990s, few singers like Usha Uthup, Sharon Prabhakar, and Peenaz Masani outside the industry made this kind of music popular.
Since then, Indian music bands in the latter group have included Baba Sehgal, Alisha Chinoy, Shantanu Mukherjee aka Shaan, Sagarika, Colonial Cousins (Hariharan, Leslie Lewis), Lucky Ali, and Sonu Nigam, and music composers like Jawahar Wattal, who made best selling albums with, Daler Mehndi, Shubha Mudgal, Baba Sehgal, Swetha Shetty and Hans Raj Hans. Besides those listed above, popular Indian music bands and pop singers include Bombay Vikings, Bombay Rockers, Juggy D, Punjabi MC, Zubeen Garg, Sunidhi Chauhan, Daler Mehndi, Devika Chawla, Raghav Sachar Rageshwari, Asha Bhosle, Anu Malik, Jazzy B, Malkit Singh, Hans Raj Hans, Raghav, Jay Sean, Rishi Rich, Sheila Chandra, Bally Sagoo, Bhangra Knights, Mehnaz, and Sanober.
Recently, the Indian music bands have taken an interesting turn with the "remixing" of songs from past Indian movie songs, new beats were later added to them. The rock music "scene" in India is extremely small when compared to Bollywood or synthesis music "scenes" but has of recent years come into its own, achieving a cult status of sorts, owing to the grasping talent of the Indian music bands. Rock music in India has its origins in 1960s and 70`s when international stars such as The Beatles visited India and brought their kind of music with them. These artistes` association with Indian musicians such as Ravi Shankar and Zakir Hussain has led to the development of Raga Rock. However Indian music bands began to gain prominence only much later, around the late 1980s.
Eventually, the rock band Indus Creed formerly known as The Rock Machine brought itself into prominence on the international stage with hits like Rock N Roll Renegade. Other Indian music bands quickly followed. As of now, the rock music scene in India is quietly growing gradually and gathering more support. With the introduction of MTV in the early 1990s, Indian music bands began to be exposed to various forms of rock such as grunge and speed metal. This influence can be clearly seen in many Indian music bands today. The Indian cities of Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangaluru have emerged as prime exposing pots for rock and metal enthusiasts. Some prominent Indian music bands include Indian Ocean, Indus Creed, Parikrama, Scribe, Pentagram, Thermal and a Quarter, No Idea (Indian band), Zero, Half step down, Exiled, Demonic Resurrection, Prithvi, Agni, Cassini`s Division, Span, Camouflage, The Supersonics, Five Little Indians and Nexus. The future looks encouraging thanks to entities such as Dogma Tone Records that are dedicated to promoting and supporting Indian music bands.
