Henry Staveley Lawrence served as one of the Acting Governors of Bombay Presidency from the year 1926 to 1928, in former undivided India under the rule of the British East India Company. He was also one of the renowned a colonial administrators. Lawrence was appointed as the Acting Governor of Bombay Presidency on 20 March 1926 and was preceded by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, DSO, PC, who retired as the Governor of Bombay in 1937.
Bombay Presidency was one of the Presidencies and provinces of British India. It was first founded in the 17th century at Surat as a trading post for the British East India Company. The Presidency included the territories of modern states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, regions of Konkan, Kandesh and Desh and northwestern Karnataka state. Henry Staveley Lawrence served in office till 8 December 1928 and was succeeded by Air Vice Marshal, The Right Honourable Sir Frederick Hugh Sykes GCSI, GCIE, GBE, KCB, CMG.
