Hari Singh is one of the renowned personalities of India. `Maharaja Sir Hari Singh, GCSI, GCIE, GCVO` was born in Jammu valley. His date of birth was 30th September of the year 1895. His precious life came to an end on 26 April 1961 at Mumbai. Hari Singh gained acclamation for being the `last ruling Maharaja` of the `princely state of Jammu and Kashmir` in the country of India.
At the age of thirteen years, Hari Singh has been admitted to the Mayo College for Princes in Ajmer. One year later, when his father expired, it was the British rulers who did take personal initiative for taking care of the education of Hari Singh. Even appointed a major, named as H.K. Brar was also been given the charge of his responsibility. He thus became the guardian of Hari Sigh.
After passing out from the Mayo College, Hari Singh went to the `Imperial Cadet Corps` at Dehra Dun. The reason for his going there is to imbibe martial teaching and also polish his English as suitable for the British upper class environment.
When Hari Singh has attained the age of 20, Hari Singh had been selected as `commander-in-chief of the Jammu and Kashmir state forces`, which has got Hindu Majority.
The reign of Hari Singh is quite glorious. After ascending to the throne in the year 1925, Hari Sigh brought about several rules and regulation for the sake of betterment of the people of the region. Instances are numerous. Thus Hari Singh made primary education obligatory for all the people in the State, incorporated laws that prohibit child marriage and also opened all the places of reverence for the people of lower castes as well .
Singh`s reign saw the accession of Jammu & Kashmir to the newly independent Indian Union in the year 1947. However , maximum of the citizens of Hari Singh`s empire were Muslims. During his reign a conflict between India and Pakistan occurred. It was followed by an attack by the tribes from Pakistan in the month of October in the year 1947. These events set out the 1st Indo-Pakistan War. Ultimately in the year of 1951 the rule of Hari Singh was ceased by the State government of India and started controlling d Kashmir.
Hari Singh got married to Maharani Tara Devi . She was born in the year 1910. Karan Singh is the only son of Hari Singh and his wife.
The son of Hari Singh `Yuvraj Karan Singh` was being made the President of the Province. It was popularly called `Sadr-e-Riyasat` . In the year 1962, Maharaja Hari Singh was made the Governor of the state.
