Hadsar Fort

Hadsar Fort is located in the Junnar region of Pune District in Maharashtra. It was constructed for the protection of an ancient commercial trade route. It was captured by the British in 1818.

This fort was constructed for the protection of the ancient commercial trade route from Mawal region to Kalyan via Naneghat. There is a marvelous sculpture design of the bastion and the fort entrance, which is not seen elsewhere. They are all carved from a single rock. According to the historians, the fort was built in the Satavahana Era. It has its mention in the Treaty of Purandar, which was held between King Shivaji and Mughals. The fort was captured by British in 1818. The entrance gate, rooms for sentries, water cisterns, steps to the fort are all built out of single rock. There is a temple of Lord Shiva at the top of the fort along with the stone cut idols of Ganesh, Garuda and Hanuman. There is a big lake inside the fort campus as well.

Pune International Airport and Pune Railway Junction are the nearest to reach the fort. National Highway 16 and 65 connect Pune to other parts of the country.
