Geography of Mandsaur District

Geography of Mandsaur district is abundant with historical and archaeological heritage. The district of Mandsaur is situated between 74 degrees 42.30 minutes and 75 degrees 50.20 minutes to the East Longitudes and 23 degrees 45.50 minutes and 25 degrees 2.55 minutes to the North Latitudes.

The Mandsaur district is bounded by four districts of the state of Rajasthan which include the Chittorgarh district to the North and West, Bhilwara district to the North, Kota district to the North-East and Jhalawar district to the East while Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh state to the South. The district of Mandsaur extends for about 142 kilometers from north to south and 124 kilometres from east to west. The total area over which this district is spread is 5521 square kilometres.

The climatic condition of Mandsaur district in the Madhya Pradesh state is generally dry except in south-west monsoon. The whole year may be divided in to four seasons. The cold season in this district starts from the month of December and it lasts until February. The cold season is followed by the hot season starting from the month of March to the middle of June. Thereafter the south-west monsoon season starts and continues up to about the middle of September.

Rainfall in different regions of the district including Sitamau, Mandsaur and Malhargarh increases in the northern part of the district from the west towards the east. There is a rapid increase in temperatures in this district after February. The month of May is generally the hottest month with the mean daily maximum temperature at 39.80 degrees Celsius and the mean daily minimum temperature at 25.40 degrees Celsius. The days in this district are intensely hot in summer and dust-laden winds, which blow during this season, add to the discomfort. On individual days, in the summer season and in June before the onset of the monsoon, the day temperatures often go up above 450 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest month in Mandsaur district with the mean daily maximum temperature at 35.00 degrees Celsius and the mean daily minimum temperature at 9.30 degrees Celsius.
