Gejjala Mantapa is an ancient monument situated in Hampi village of the south Indian state Karnataka. The exact purpose of the structure has not been inferred clearly however its religious nature has been suggested owing to its architectural affinity with the Vittala temple. It stands at the end of the chariot street of Vittala temple. Owing to its position, it has been predicted that it possibly served as a platform for keeping the idols of deities during the annual temple festival or other religious festivals.
Gejjala Mantapa stands amidst a beautiful landscape surrounded by banana and coconut trees. These render shade and a cool and comforting ambience to the visitors in the scorching heat of Hampi. Gejjala Mantapa is on the left side of the path leading to the Vittala temple. The monument has a unique architecture having open pavilion with pillars and an elevated platform. The superstructure is supported by two concentric rows of square carved pillars. Brickworks of typical Vijaynagara style embellish the domed roof structure.
