Francis Verner Wylie, also known as Sir Francis Verner Wylie, GCIE, KCSI, ICS, was the former Governor of Central Provinces and Berar, which was established in the year 1861 by the amalgamation of the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories and Nagpur Province during the rule of the British Empire in India. He was also a member of the British Indian Civil Service. Wylie was born on 9 August 1891 and received his education at Royal School, Dungannon, in County Tyrone, Ulster in Ireland. Later he studied at the Trinity College, Dublin.
Career of Francis Verner Wylie
Sir Francis Verner Wylie joined Indian Civil Service (ICS) in the year 1914. The Indian Civil Service was the civil service of the Government of India during the era of the rule of British Empire in India. The members of the civil service were appointed under Section XXXII of the Government of India Act, 1858 of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. After the year 1886, the Indian Civil Service was officially known as Imperial Civil Service. After he came to India in the year 1915, Wylie was put on military duty from the year 1916 to 1919.
Francis Verner Wylie GCIE, KCSI, ICS served in the Indian Political Service from the year 1919 to 1938. Later he was appointed Governor of Central Provinces and Berar. He served in Office from the year 1938 to 1940. He also acted as the Political Adviser to the Crown Representative during 1940 to 1941 and 1943 to 1945. In the year 1941, Sir Francis Verner Wylie became the British minister in Kabul, Afghanistan by succeeding Sir William Fraser Tytler. Later he was appointed as the Governor of the United Provinces. He served the position from 1945 to 1947. Later he became the British Government Director of the Suez Canal Company in the year 1948.
