Finn`s Weaver

Finn`s Weaver is an Indian Bird that belongs to the species of yellow weaver.

Finn`s Weaver has two races which are known as nominate from the Kumaon area and salimalii from the eastern Terai.

Description of Finn`s Weaver
Finn`s Weaver was named by Hume based on a specimen obtained at Kaladhungi near Nainital. The species was rediscovered in the Terai Region in West Bengal by Frank Finn. Oates called it "The Eastern Baya" in 1889 and Stuart Baker called it Finn`s Baya in the second edition (1925) of the Fauna of British East India Company.

Finn`s Weaver breeds from May to September.

Nests of Finn`s Weaver
The nest of Finn`s Weaver is built on top of trees or in reeds. The nest is different in structure from the other weaver species found in Indian states like West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and the rest of India.

Distinguish between Finn`s Weaver and other Weaver
Like other weavers, Finn`s Weaver weaves using thin strips of leaves and reeds. This species lines the entire inside of the nest, unlike the other weavers, which line only the floor of the nest.

Behaviour of Finn`s Weaver
The males Finn`s Weaver strips the leaves of the nest tree, making the globular nests clearly visible.
