He is best known for his film Khosla Ka Ghosla which rendered him praises from critics. He began his career with advertising and is still involved in ad filmmaking. Most of the films of Dibakar Banerjee won applauses from critics establishing him amongst the prominent filmmakers who are marking a deviation in the stereotype Bollywood trends.

Early Life of Dibakar Banerjee
Dibakar Banerjee was born on 21st June 1969 in Karol Bagh region of Delhi. He did his schooling from Bal Bharati Public School, Delhi. After completing his schooling he attended the National Institute of Design (NID) to study visual communications and graphic design. However he left the course midway after two and a half years. Afterwards, in Delhi, he worked with audio-visual filmmaker Sam Mathews for a short period.

Career of Dibakar Banerjee
Dibakar Banerjee started his career with an advertising agency as a copywriter with Shems Combit, TBWA Anthem. Later he joined Contract Advertising in Delhi and worked with the famed film director Pradeep Sarkar, who was then a creative director at the agency. One of his colleagues at the agency was screenwriter Jaideep Sahni who later wrote the story, screenplay, lyrics and dialogues of Khosla Ka Ghosla. He left his job in the year 1997 and launched his own company named Watermark along with two ex- NID friends. He conceptualized his debut movie Khosla Ka Ghosla, based on Delhi, with his friend and ex-colleague Jaideep Sinha. The film released in the year 2006 and featured Boman Irani and Anupam Kher. It was shot at various locations in and around Delhi. The film received overwhelming critical responses and was awarded with various prestigious accolades. In the year 2008 he directed his second venture Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, starring Abhay Deol and Paresh Rawal. He also co-wrote the script for the film. Set in the backdrop of his hometown Delhi, the film was premiered at the IFFI, Goa and MoMA, New York. The film went on to become a huge success winning three Filmfare Awards. Dibakar Banerjee next directed Love Sex aur Dhokha which was the first Indian film to be shot completely on digital camera. The film was screened in significant film festivals all around the globe earning international acclaim to the director. Shanghai, a 2012 political thriller, was his next venture which featured Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi. Once again the film won applauses from critics and rendered a distinct stature to Banerjee`s works. Shanghai was an adaptation of 1967 Greek novel Z authored by Vassilis Vassilikos. He also directed one of the four short films of Indian anthology movie Bombay Talkies.

Dibakar Banerjee won two National Film Awards, one in 2007 for Khosla Ka Ghosla and the other in 2009 for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!. In 2007 he also won Zee Cine Award for Most Promising Director for the movie Khosla Ka Ghosla. He received IRDS Film Award for Social concern in 2012 for Best direction for the film Shanghai.

Personal Life of Dibakar Banerjee
Dibakar Banerjee is married to Richa Puranesh, an FMCG marketing professional. After living in Delhi for several years, the couple moved to Mumbai following the success of Khosla Ka Ghosla. The couple is blessed with a daughter.
