Boman Irani was born in 1962 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is a famous name amongst Indian film and theatre actors. Other than being just an actor, he is a brilliant photographer. He moved to Bollywood in 2004 at the age of 44 with his debut role in the movie Josh. This multifaceted personality was involved in selling potato chips, before moving into the entertainment industry. He won numerous awards for his admirable performances in the film industry. Irani is a member of the Parsee Television Actors Community and is also its Secretary. He is married to Zenobia, and has two sons, Danesh and Kayur
Early Life of Boman Irani
Boman Irani follows Zoroastrianism and was born to the Gujarati-speaking Parsi community of Mumbai, Maharashtra. He completed his graduation from the Mithibai College in Mumbai. Later after completing his Polytechnic Diploma Course he worked as a room service staff in the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower. He accompanied his mother to run their ancestral bakery shop. After closing down the chips shops he switched on to become a professional photographer.
Boman Irani`s Theatre Career
Boman Irani started his career as a photographer, but soon expanded his capabilities to theatre with a first character part in Alyque Padamsee`s play Roshni. Eventually, he did a double role opposite Pearl Padamsee in Raell Padamsee`s play Family Ties in 1996. He portrayed the character of Mahatma Gandhi in the Feroz Abbas Khan play Mahatma vs. Gandhi. This play discovered Gandhi`s troubled relationship with his eldest son Harilal Gandhi. Bomam Irani`s contribution to theatres is significant and he has around 40 careers to his credit.
Boman Irani`s Bollywood Career
Boman Irani did some T.V. commercials, like CEAT tyres and others. He made his Bollywood film debut in the film Josh (2000), featuring Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. He shot to fame as the weird Dr. J.C Ashtana in the blockbuster comedy film Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003). Boman Irani also appeared in the sequel of the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). Though, here he played a different character, Lucky Singh. His recent noteworthy performance was in the film Khosla ka Ghosla, where he plays a humorous negative character. Lately, he also appeared in the romantic drama Kismat Konnection
Boman Irani has appeared in many Bollywood films a played a variety of characters and supporting roles ranging from comic roles in films such as Main Hoon Na (2004), Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005) and Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006) as well as serious dramatic roles in Lakshya (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Don - The Chase Begins Again (2006) and the English language film Being Cyrus (2006). Recently he was seen in the 2010 blockbuster 3 Idiots.
His roles always had a wide range of variety. Sometimes, he was seen as the father, or else friend, doctor, uncle, abusive neighbour, corrupt businessman, eccentric murderer, courtroom judge and police officer. He has also appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati with Sanjay Dutt.
Award and Honours to Boman Irani
In 2004 he was awarded the best performer in a comic role for the movie Munnabhai MBBS. In 2010 he won 3 awards for his performance in 3 Idiots. He was awarded as the best villain in the Star Screen Awards and IIFA and best supporting actor in the Filmfare awards.
