Dhananando

Dhananando is the youngest son of Kalasoka, king of Pataliputra. Dhananando had eight elder brothers, who succeeded their father in the order of their seniority. Dhananando was the youngest and was called so as he was addicted to hoarding treasure. It is said that Dhananando collected money of about eighty kotis. It is said that to keep the money securely he diverted the River Ganges from its course by constructing a dam across it. Then he excavated a deep cave in a rock in the bed of the river and buried the treasure there. Dhananando laid a layer of stones over this cave to prevent the entry of water and poured molten lead in it. Dhananando repeated this process and made it like a solid rock. Thus, he restored the river to its former course. Chanakya later killed Dhananando, who raised Chandragupta to the throne in his stead.
